In my talk, we will delve into the world of artificial intelligence (AI) decision-making, examining its profound influence on our lives, and the risks it poses when imbued with unchecked biases. As AI systems are increasingly entrusted with critical decisions, from creditworthiness assessments to employment screenings, it's paramount that these systems are fair, transparent, and accountable. Yet, bias and discrimination have emerged as significant challenges, chiefly because AI systems tend to reflect and amplify the biases in their training data. These biases can inadvertently lead to unfair outcomes, exacerbating existing inequalities. Furthermore, I will discuss potential solutions, regulatory measures, and practices that can be instituted to mitigate these biases. The goal of this presentation is not only to expose the dark side of AI decision-making but also to inspire and guide the development of more equitable and accountable AI systems.

With the increasing number of technologies necessary to run your projects it’s important to make onboarding and switching of developers as efficient as possible. Docker is a huge help, but it also means an additional technology to master. That’s where DDEV comes for rescue.

DDEV is a Docker wrapper allowing you to run your services in containers without deep Docker knowledge. On top of that it provides you with an ecosystem of add-ons, hooks and scripts.

At Jobiqo we’re using DDEV to build our local development platform. In this session we will explain why we picked DDEV, we will showcase its features and how we’re leveraging it (not only) on localhost.

Lupus Decoupled Drupal provides a complete, fully integrated solution for a headless Drupal out of the box - combining the power of Drupal with a modern frontend!

In this session we are building a ddev-based project based upon Lupus Decoupled Drupal - live! We'll start from scratch and will go through all necessary steps to build the site, step-by-step, so you can follow along if you like. We'll be running Drupal next to a nuxt-based frontend, with working authentication, editor-previews, nice-URLs, metatags and layout builder! After setting everything up we'll go through the steps of adding adding a new content type and see how easy the frontend can be customized by writing vue-components. After the basics we'll go through the steps to use layout builder and Views integration within the decoupled setup.

Wolfgang Ziegler is a passionate Drupal contributor and system architect from Vienna, Austria. He is "Managing Partner, CTO" at drunomics in Vienna.

Wolfgang Ziegler - known as fago in the Drupal community - is working with Drupal since 2005. Since then, he authored a variety of different modules, like Rules, Profile2 and their predecessors. He is past maintainer of the core Form and Entity API subsystems and was the lead behind Entity API improvements in Drupal 8, like the new Entity Field API and the underlying Typed Data System.

As part of his position at drunomics, Wolfgang gained a vast experience in utilizing a decoupled architecture by decoupling Drupal and combining it with a Nuxt.js frontend. Furthermore he is an advocate of DevOps principles and loves helping to establishing a DevOps mindset and practices.

In the Drupal community, we're contending with a rapidly changing near term and far future that have immense, even unsettling, implications for our ecosystem. This year's advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI), including OpenAI's emerging integrations with Drupal, and the fast growth in voice and other conversational technologies, cast in stark relief the risks and rewards—and the dangers to our commitments to equity, inclusion, and an open web—of allowing machines to become more human. At the same time, advancements in immersive technologies like the putative metaverse raise pertinent and urgent questions about what happens when humans become more like machines. Things feel unbalanced, unhinged, and unstable.

Over the course of this keynote, we'll touch on all of these areas: conversational, immersive, and generative—and we'll look at their possible impacts on the Drupal community and ecosystem as well as the potential damage they might inflict on our sense of humanity, our sense of justice, and our sense of self. We'll look closely at topics like avatars, anthropomorphism, and AI bias to explore how our imminent future encodes oppression into our interfaces as they become more like us and reflect our society, and to inspect why we must confront difficult questions in order to keep Drupal relevant, resonant, and reliable far into the future—for everyone.

When we at https://www.jobiqo.com/ started our decoupled journey in 2018 the Drupal decoupled scene was new, very different and less mature than it is today. We found ourselves having to navigate very uncertain waters, not all was easy, but a lot of it was new and exciting and drove a lot of interesting times, personal development, struggles and yes maybe even some tears!

Today we can look back at past mistakes, good decisions, bad decisions, difficult decisions and implementations, great collaboration efforts and things we are not yet even sure were good or bad.

In this session I will go through the initial business (and technical) motivations to change jobiqo’s product which is a SAAS software for creating job boards from a very typical Drupal 7 architecture with a decoupled architecture using Drupal GraphQL and Next.js, what were some of the things we wanted to achieve with it, the risks we knew of, the risks we didn't know of, and analyse if we have delivered on those ideas today.

Doing a radical stack shift like this on a stable and mature product is no easy task, risks are involved, emotions are involved and a lot of buy-in needs to happen in all parts of the organisation (not just from developers) for it to truly succeed.

In this talk we can explore some of those risks and challenges such as :

Time to market (and development time in general)
Lack of knowledge from the team on specific flows / tools to be used
Security and accessibility

And much more.. We also will touch on specific patterns you can find youself fall into that can be detrimental to the team's success such as

Isolating backend and frontend development teams
Working on silos for the sake of "separation of concerns" (spoiler alert, both work on the same concern)
Lack of knowledge sharing

The session does not require any previous knowledge of any specific framework, just a basic understanding of the differences between a typical monolithic architecture and a decoupled architecture.

Established in 1966, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. It provides technical assistance, policy advice, and capacity-building support to developing countries and economies in transition. UNIDO focuses on key areas such as industrial policy, trade capacity building, green industry, energy, and agribusiness. Its ultimate goal is to promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development that contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In December of 2021, Dr. Gerd Müller from Germany took the helm of UNIDO as the Director General. His vision for UNIDO is to provide concrete and practical solutions to pressing global challenges like sustainability, climate change and hunger. As he set out to bring his vision to life, he has introduced a major restructuring to the organization and has prioritized digital transformation to better deliver UNIDO's mandate.

My name is Pavan Malji and I work at UNIDO as a Web Applications Management Officer or WAMO. My team and I develop, manage and support the web applications portfolio of UNIDO under the central IT. I wear several hats on my job including developer, technical lead, project manager, team lead, support engineer, etc. My duties also include resource management, vendor evaluation, technical advisor, etc. Today, I am am going to share with you the journey of the UNIDO’s Public Website revamp project where I wore most of these hats. I will be touching the technical aspects of this project in brief but my main focus is to share the lessons learnt working on a project on a tight budget, tight schedule, fluid requirements while making almost no compromises on the quality, maintainability and scalability.

“It has been determined by office of the Director General that the current UNIDO public website does not accurately reflect the priorities, work and achievements of the organization. It is also in a serious need of a visual upgrade to a more modern and vibrant look.”

This formed the basis of the project. As the WAMO (hope this does not catch on) in UNIDO, I was given this mandate by the IT department chief. This is also an opportunity for IT to demonstrate that they are fully embracing the new mantra, “Do more with less”

Specialised in the field of web application development, content management systems and legacy systems maintenance and migration, I have developed, migrated, documented, supported and maintained several business critical applications and public information systems in the last two decades working for international organizations like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
