Search API is a powerful module family. Especially, if you work with different search backends such as Solr, Elastic, OpenSearch, etc. and you want to create unified solutions for all of them.

However, it is not easy to build decoupled searches using Search API.

Therefore we have created a new module called search_api_decoupled, that exposes all necessary configurations to initialise a decoupled search application (layout, facets, search result rendering, autocomplete, etc.) and an API endpoint to query the search index.

The module exposes an UI to control the display of the search block or search page, including placement of elements like search input, pagination, various facets and search summary. For placement the layout module from core is used. Facets are created by the existing facets module. For autocomplete search_api_autocomplete is used.

The search endpoint was designed similar to existing search solutions, foremost Elasticsearch helper, and is very easy to consume.

Architecturally, the search relies only on data from the search index, and does not load nor render entities in Drupal. This makes searching lightning fast and overcomes caching challenges that might occur with existing display solutions for Search API.

For showcasing we have created a search app. However, this search app is not part of the new module, because it is highly opinionated and coupled to our frontend stack (React, Webcomponents, Tailwind). However, we would like to add a demo app or starter kit in a sub-module, that others can use to build their own search apps.

Drupal as a Content Management Framework supports commenting content out of the box. In the free and hanseatic city of hamburg we have a Drupal based system for collecting informal civil contributions. To collect the data we have a Drupal Backend and a custom decoupled frontend implemented with Vue.js.

The content created by the citizens of the city can range from a hundred entries or more. Each of these contents as well as the comments are analyzed manually by one or more clerks. To simplify the process of comment analysis we have developed a Drupal module: comment-analyzer.

This module shows the administrator important information that helps him to analyze the comments correctly.

The presentation will show how we proceeded to develop our analysis model, which Drupal features like the Batch API we used, how the integration with different open source frameworks worked and an brief introduction to Natural Language Processing (NLP).

The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how NLP can be used to analyze comments on a Drupal site. We will discuss the different techniques that can be used, such as sentiment analysis, topic modeling, and text classification. We will also showcase the benefits of using NLP especially to make the free and hanseatic city smarter.

In conclusion, this presentation will be a great opportunity for Drupal developers and business owners to learn about the benefits of using NLP to analyze user comments. Attendees will leave the conference with a better understanding of how NLP can be used for e. g. to improve user engagement, detect spam comments, and understand user sentiment.

Drupal Core currently provides a very rudimentary API for sending transactional emails. This applies to both, the way emails are constructed (markup rendered to plaintext) as well as the way they are delivered (using the very limited PHP mail function).

A growing number of contrib projects are attempting to close this gap. However, to give site builders the tools they need to make their emails look good and work with modern email infrastructure, contrib projects must apply crude hacks to work around the limitations of the core mail API.

This session is a very short introduction into core and contrib mail APIs followed by a (hopefully) long Q&A where the audience is encouraged to bring in their PoV regarding the future of transactional email. The results of this session will ideally lead to a clear and broadly accepted plan for the next step on how Drupal core transactional email is going to be modernized in upcoming releases.

The Paragraphs module has become the de-facto approach to modelling a parent/child field structure within nodes. It's a tried and tested way of organising data and separating presentation from content.

This rigidity can be great, but the strictness is reflected in the authoring experience. Think of it as structure first. You need to know what paragraph type you want before you can produce any content.

Sometimes that's a barrier to content authoring. A lot of content is inherently more freeform. As an editor, you want to start with a blank page, write some rough content, and organise it into components later. You want an editing experience closer to Google Docs or Microsoft Office.

Drupal 10 and CKEditor 5 open up some more avenues in this space.

CKEditor 5 has an internal data model that's distinct from both the stored data and the resulting HTML. It's a document editor rather than an HTML editor. With that in mind, we can define our own document structure and plugins for things that we might previously implemented as paragraphs.

This talk will demonstrate this approach. We'll go though putting together a component that is editable within CKEditor, is stored in a semantic way and is themable with twig.

We'll also illustrate when this is not the right approach, and when multiple entities organised hierarchically make more sense.
